Welcome
to Day 4 of our “12 Days of Giving” here on the “More from Lexington Family”
blog.
Here’s
how it works. Every day from now until December 13 we will feature a different
giveaway here on the blog and we’ll also give your family a great idea for
giving back in our community.
All
you have to do is use the Rafflecopter widget to enter the giveaway. You can
earn more than one entry for each giveaway. Just scroll down to enter.
We’ll
start the giveaways around 9 a.m. every day, and announce the winner at 9 a.m.
the next day. Prizes will be available at the Lexington Family office at 138 E.
Reynolds Rd., Ste 201. Gift card prizes can be mailed, but larger prizes must
be picked up.
GIVEAWAY
I’ve
got a fun giveaway today for the extreme geeks in your family.
It’s
the Darth Vader Light Saber Umbrella from Hammacher Schlemmer – perfect for
today’s stormy weather.
Be
ready for the storm, as you wield your light saber umbrella against the
elements. The handle is based upon the famous light saber used by the Dark Lord
of the Sith, Darth Vader, while the shaft has been beautifully anodized in an
iridescent red. The 100% black nylon canopy has the emblem of the Galactic
Empire silk-screened on the sides. Comes complete with a sleek nylon carrying
sleeve with adjustable shoulder strap. Measures 39 inches in length, while the
canopy measures 47 inches across.
You
can find this umbrella at www.hammacherschlemmer.com
and they have Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi versions as well. Retails for
$49.95. It is made by Museum Replicas Ltd.
(This
is an adult collectible and may contain small parts so it should be kept out of
the reach of small children. Besides, small children should never be given
light sabers unless they are potential Jedi Knights).
GIVING BACK
Today,
I’d like to share with you two different ways to make life a little sweeter for
people in our community.
Help
a Senior in Long-Term Care
First
off, the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass is hosting its 5th
annual Silver Bells Holiday Gift Drive. This drive brings cheer to hundreds of
residents of long-term care facilities who would otherwise receive no gifts at
all during the holidays. How sad is that?
You
can make a big difference in the life of a senior by purchasing a gift and
dropping it off at NHOA’s office in the
Lexington Senior Center at 1530 Nicholasville Rd. by 4 p.m. on Dec. 10. Gifts
should be unwrapped and placed in a gift bag.
Suggested
items include:
Wallets
(for men and women)
Purses
Gloves
Scarves
Chocolates
and Peppermints
Puzzle
books and Crossword puzzle books in large print
Holiday
themed costume jewelry
Call
NHOA at 277-9215 for more info.
